one shot back stab IS possible, and there are builds specificly to do this as back stabbing in this game is the lowest common denominator. It takes no skill and gives victory. I think the biggest non-cheating backstab I've ever seen was 1800 damage, so it's entirely possible they killed you in oneshot without cheating.
If they're moving towards your right (or left), press right (or left). You will swing behind them and backstab them instead. Holding the sprint button at all times helps circle them faster or as fast as they are circling you. A double backstab may occur in which case, neither of you will get damaged.
