Car was up on the lift and he pointed out engine oil at the rear of the engine. Got a call this evening with the diagnosis---rear seal needs replacing.

If you regularly thrash a 1200 down the motorway then you might justify full synth but I suspect it's overkill. The 100HP might benefit if you work it hard. But neither have turbos or other stuff that hammers the oil so semi is probably fine. My 1200cc boxer twin bike makes 104HP and that is specced for semi synth.
All: I own a 2012 Fiat 500 Sport, with about 33k miles on it. I purchased it in 2014 from CarMax, at 12k miles. I change the oil when the message pops up, which seems to be about every 5000 miles, and have not had any problems with overheating, low oil, or the like. However I'm being told I need a new engine.
